Our Alpha Phi Story

Alpha Phi is a sisterhood of women supporting one another in lifelong achievement.

Above is the Alpha Phi Mission Statement which guides the actions of the 172 collegiate chapters of Alpha Phi stretching from coast to coast. Alpha Phi is a an international sorority with over 200,000 members worldwide. Though there are many of us, all our sisters share a commitment to excellence and upholding Alpha Phi's core values: Sisterhood, Innovation, Generosity, and Character. Our sisterhood is based on life-long friendships rooted in kindness, love and respect for one another. Since our founding, innovation has been one of the cornerstones of Alpha Phi. We have a strong sense of generosity to help one another and their communities. Alpha Phi fosters the qualities of strong character that distinguish our members and our sisterhood, including compassion, integrity and sincerity. Alpha Phi assists college women in making informed choices to reach their highest potential, and we focus our community on these four core values.

Additionally, we are grateful for the innovative leadership and organizational practices of Alpha Phi’s Founders in 1872 because they established the strong spirit within the Alpha Phi community today. We are a sisterhood that values the past, but looks forward to the progress offered by the future. Our founders were resilient pioneers of the coeducational system, and their courage inspires us to act with similar strength. Thus, by giving one another support in our Alpha Phi chapters today, we are both helping our sisters and paying homage to the legacy of our founders' mission to establish a support network for women. Our founders identified the necessity for a circle of support for women in higher education in 1872, so they formed Alpha Phi in 1872 at Syracuse University. Today, Alpha Phi continues to provide a strong sisterhood for women young and old all around the world. From hand to hand and heart to heart, we are all grateful and proud of the legacy left to us by our Founders, and we are thrilled to share their story with you.

History of Dartmouth's Iota Kappa Chapter

The Iota Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi was founded in 2007. Since then, our chapter has been growing and maintaining traditions of our international organization, while creating new traditions of our own!

In 2012, construction was completed on our beautiful house on 2 North Park Street in Hanover, NH. The home features 23 stylish bedrooms, a fabulous kitchen, a gorgeous living room, and a basement. Many sisters choose to live in our home during sophomore summer and during their junior and senior years at Dartmouth. Our house is truly a home.
